What is Disability Confident?
The government launched their Disability Confident campaign in July 2013.
The campaign is aimed at helping employers to remove barriers, increase understanding and ensure that disabled that disabled people have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations. CDG – WISE Ability fully backs the campaign and is supporting employers to become confident about disability in the work place and recruit a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Over 7 million people (17.5%) of working age in the UK are disabled or have a long term health condition.
How can disability confident help your business?
There are many benefits of employing a disabled person. Encouraging applications from disabled people is good for business; it can help your business by:
- Increase the number of high quality applicants available
- Secure high quality staff who are skilled, loyal and hard working
- Saving time and money on the costs of recruitment and training by reducing staff turnover
- Create a workforce that reflects the diverse range of customers it serves and the community in which it is based
CDG – WISE Ability is a Disability confident employer who is working toward becoming a Disability Leader. CDG – WISE Ability wants to support the employers to become Disability confident. By stepping up to become a Disability Confident leader, we will be acting as a champion within our local and business community, with our supply chain and our networks. We’ll be showing people with disabilities that we are serious about leading the way and helping other businesses to become Disability Confident. The Disability Confident scheme aims to help employers make the most of the opportunities provided by employing people with disabilities.
